Local approaches and XFEM used to estimate life of CFRP repaired cracked welded joints under fatigue loading

Zhiyu Jie et al.

Summary: Three different local methods were applied to estimate the fatigue life of welded joints, considering the effects of CFRP modulus and thickness. As the initial crack depth increases, fatigue life and strength decrease. Experimental results reveal three different fatigue failure modes.
