Kinetic and Morphology Study of Equimolar CO2-CH4 Hydrate Formation in the Presence of Cyclooctane and L-Tryptophan

Namrata Gaikwad et al.

Summary: This study investigates the kinetics and morphology of hydrate crystal growth in gas-water and gas-liquid hydrocarbon-water systems using different additives. The addition of tryptophan significantly enhances gas uptake and hydrate formation rate. In the gas-liquid hydrocarbon-water system, the presence of water-insoluble Cyclo-O hinders mass transfer between gas and bulk water phase, resulting in cloudlike hydrate formation.

Coal mine gas separation of methane via clathrate hydrate process aided by tetrahydrofuran and amino acids

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Coal bed methane (CBM) is currently not commercially viable in many regions due to the high concentration of non-flammable gases. Gas separation via gas hydrate using environmentally benign amino acids such as L-tryptophan and L-leucine has shown potential for improving methane recovery and separation efficiency. The combination of amino acids with tetrahydrofuran (THF) can enhance the CH4 recovery ratio and initial hydrate growth rate, providing a promising method for recovering low-concentration CBM.

Summary: This study explores the impact of different types of impellers on the formation rate and energy consumption in carbon dioxide gas hydrate formation experiments. The results show that the use of a Russhton turbine in single impeller experiments yields higher initial hydrate formation rates, while the triangle turbine performs better in dual impeller experiments.

Hydrates for cold energy storage and transport: A review

Zhenyuan Yin et al.

Summary: The energy demand for space cooling has more than tripled in the past thirty years, resulting in about 1 Gt CO2 emissions annually. The cold energy released from LNG terminals has reached a historical high, highlighting the need for suitable phase change materials (PCMs) like semiclathrate hydrates (SCHs) to improve energy efficiency in cooling processes. There is strong potential for disruptive SCH-based cooling technologies to be developed in the near future for energy efficiency improvement and environmental sustainability.
