Discovering the relationship between natural resources, energy consumption, gross capital formation with economic growth: Can lower financial openness change the curse into blessing

Humaira Yasmeen et al.

Summary: The study found a negative relationship between natural resources and economic growth, supporting the resource curse hypothesis, with non-renewable energy playing a stronger role in economic growth compared to renewable energy. Financial openness has a positive impact on economic growth, while gross capital formation does not significantly influence economic growth. Financial openness was not found to be capable of turning the resource curse into a blessing, with key guidelines proposed for efficient utilization of natural resources in the country.

Renewable Energy Consumption, CO2 Emissions, and Economic Growth Nexus: A Simultaneity Spatial Modeling Analysis of EU Countries

Riza Radmehr et al.

Summary: The study found positive spatial correlations among economic growth, carbon emissions, and renewable energy consumption in EU countries. The relationships between economic growth and carbon emissions, as well as economic growth and renewable energy consumption, are bidirectional, while the nexus between economic growth and renewable energy consumption is unidirectional. These findings have implications for designing effective environmental and energy policies to meet EU targets for economic development and sustainability.

Study on the impact of energy rebound effect on carbon emission reduction at different stages of urbanization in China

Xiaoyan Li

Summary: This study examines the impact of the energy rebound effect on carbon emissions at different urbanization stages, finding that both short-term and long-term energy rebound effects decrease with the increase of urbanization rate. Moreover, the discretionary behavior of local governments in formulating environmental policies and investment bias could increase the energy rebound effect.

The effect of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on economic growth: Non-parametric evidence

Kris Ivanovski et al.

Summary: The study utilizes non-parametric modeling technique to examine the time-varying impact of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on economic growth from 1990 to 2015. The results indicate that non-renewable energy consumption has a significant positive effect on economic growth in OECD countries, while the impact of renewable energy is statistically insignificant in most parts of the study period. In non-OECD countries, both renewable and non-renewable energy consumption promote economic growth, suggesting the potential role of developing countries in the transition to renewables.

Drivers of household decarbonization: Decoupling and decomposition analysis

Litong Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found a decarbonization trend in urban areas in China, particularly showing strong decoupling during 2007-2008, while the trend was not discernible in rural areas. Significant decarbonization trends were observed in urban areas of heavily industrialized and renewables-based provinces, as well as rural areas of developed provinces.

What does the China's economic recovery after COVID-19 pandemic mean for the economic growth and energy consumption of other countries?

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: China is the first major economy to show signs of recovery after the economic slowdown induced by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study findings suggest that China's economic recovery post-COVID-19 has the most significant impact on the economic growth of upper-middle-income countries and on the energy consumption of high-income countries.

The nexus between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and economic growth in the U.S.

Mahmoud Salari et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and GDP in the U.S. at the state level. Different types of energy consumption have varying impacts on CO2 emissions, and there is an inverted-U shape relationship between CO2 emissions and GDP. The findings can inform policy makers in reducing CO2 emissions across states.
