A heat stress responsive NAC transcription factor heterodimer plays key roles in rice grain filling

Ye Ren et al.

Summary: The study found that ONAC127 and ONAC129 are responsive to heat stress and involved in rice grain filling process as seed-specific NAC domain transcription factors, forming a heterodimer. Knock-out or overexpression of these genes results in incomplete grain filling, exacerbated under heat stress. They mainly regulate grain filling by affecting sugar transportation and abiotic stress responses.

Omics: The way forward to enhance abiotic stress tolerance in Brassica napus L.

Ali Raza et al.

Summary: Plant abiotic stresses can negatively impact growth and development, affecting global agricultural production. Rapeseed, a major oilseed crop, faces productivity reduction due to environmental adversities. Utilizing omics approaches to understand stress tolerance mechanisms and exploring CRISPR/Cas9 for genome editing can potentially improve rapeseed production globally. The integration of omics, genome editing, and speed breeding offers promising prospects for developing abiotic stress-tolerant rapeseed genotypes.
