Research has shown that replication-competent virus is not detected in individuals with mild to moderate COVID-19 more than 10 days after symptom onset. It is unclear whether this applies to nursing home residents. None of the 273 specimens collected from nursing home residents >10 days from the initial positive test were culture positive.
