Cyclodextrins as eco-friendly nucleation promoters for methane hydrate

Fariba Asadi et al.

Summary: Gas hydrates offer potential methods for the storage and transportation of gases, but factors such as slow kinetics can hinder their applications. This study demonstrates the use of cyclodextrins (CDs) as green chemicals to accelerate methane hydrate formation. Nucleation rates were increased for all three studied CDs, suggesting a potential role of disruption in H-bonding at the gas-water interface in hydrate nucleation promotion in CD-containing systems.

Unstable Density-Driven Convection of CO2 in Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Porous Media With Implications for Deep Saline Aquifers

Sijia Wang et al.

Summary: Density-driven convection mixing enhances CO2 trapping in deep saline aquifers storage. Fingering instability and mass transfer caused by convection mixing were investigated using MRI in porous media with varying permeability. The dissolution rate characterized by Sherwood number was found to be independent of local convection dissolution in heterogeneous porous media, promoting CO2 dissolution in carbon storage.

Hydrate formation from clay bound water for CO2 storage

Youhong Sun et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the formation of CO2 hydrate from clay bound water, revealing a transition from adsorption to hydrate formation with increasing water content. The process was influenced by pressure and mineral type, with hydrate formation starting below 15% water content.

Dependence of the hydrate-based CO2 storage process on the hydrate reservoir environment in high-efficiency storage methods

Yongchen Song et al.

Summary: The study indicates that high initial water saturation and suitable temperatures and pressures in marine sediments contribute to higher efficiency in CO2 storage using hydrates. SiO2 nanoparticles are an effective kinetic additive that can improve water conversion percentage and CO2 storage efficiency.
