Improving efficiency for removal of ammoniacal nitrogen from wastewaters using hydrodynamic cavitation

Summary: This study demonstrated significant improvements in the removal of ammoniacal nitrogen from wastewater using a hydrodynamic cavitation technology. The evaluation of reactor geometries and the effects of initial concentration, pressure drop, cavitating device nature, salt content, hydrogen peroxide addition and aeration were conducted. The study found that initial concentration and aeration had a significant impact on the efficiency of ammoniacal nitrogen removal.

Summary: Hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is used for degrading complex organic pollutants in water, with a study conducted on vortex-based HC devices at different scales. The experimental results demonstrate that the performance of HC devices decreases with an increase in scale, eventually reaching a plateau.
