Stability of Cobalt Particles In and Outside HZSM-5 under CO Hydrogenation Conditions Studied by ex situ and in situ Electron Microscopy

Angela Strass-Eifert et al.

Summary: Designing stable materials for harsh reaction conditions is challenging in catalysis, but HZSM-5 supported cobalt catalysts with encapsulated or exterior cobalt nanoparticles show resistance to sintering even after prolonged operation under CO hydrogenation conditions. In situ environmental TEM experiments demonstrate the high sintering resistance of cobalt nanoparticles up to 700°C, indicating the potential for preparing sinter-stable catalysts for harsh reaction environments.
