FMCFs composites show excellent electromagnetic wave absorption capability and have the potential for wide applications in the field of electromagnetic wave absorbing coatings. The control mechanism of the excellent electromagnetic wave absorption comes from magnetic loss, dipole polarization loss, and interface polarization. Simulation technology combined with material design is meaningful for researching the absorption mechanism and rational design of EM wave absorbing coatings.
Fe-III-MOF-5-derived/carbon fibers composites (FMCFs) were successfully prepared through facile electrospinning, along with deeply investigating the electromagnetic (EM) wave attenuation of these carbon-based composites. The as-prepared FMCFs show great EM wave absorption capability, which obtains a maximum reflection loss (RL) of -39.2 dB with a bandwidth of 4.44 GHz at a small thickness of 1.4 mm, in addition, the control mechanism of the excellent EM wave absorption was derived from magnetic loss, dipole polarization loss and interface polarization. More importantly, in order to demonstrate the ability of FMCFs material in practical application, ANSYS Electronics Desktop 2018 (HFSS) is further used to prove the radar cross section (RCS) reduction, and the material coatings with FMCFs contribute to the RCS values with the strongest RCS reduction value up to 32 dBm(2). Combining simulation technology with material design is meaningful for researching the absorption mechanism and rational design of EM wave absorbing coatings. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd.
