Otolaryngological symptoms in COVID-19

Elif Elibol

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of otolaryngological symptoms in COVID-19 patients based on age, gender, and pneumonia-related thorax CT characteristics. The results showed that otolaryngological symptoms were more common in females and in the 18-30 age group. Patients with viral pneumonia were more likely to exhibit these symptoms, providing important insights for managing COVID-19 patients with otolaryngological complaints.

Bilateral Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Intralabyrinthine Hemorrhage in a Patient With COVID-19

Alexander Chern et al.

Summary: This case report describes a patient with COVID-19 who experienced bilateral sudden sensorineural hearing loss and intralabyrinthine hemorrhage. Treatment with high-dose oral prednisone and intratympanic dexamethasone resulted in improvement of vestibular symptoms, fluctuating sensorineural hearing loss in the right ear, and severe to profound mixed hearing loss in the left ear.

COVID-19 and Tinnitus

Pramod Chirakkal et al.

Summary: COVID-19 can cause a variety of symptoms, including damage to the auditory organs in the inner ear, with tinnitus being a common issue during the pandemic. This is the first reported case of hearing loss and tinnitus in a COVID-19 patient in Qatar, emphasizing the importance for otolaryngologists to be aware of its correlation with the coronavirus.

Repurposed Antiviral Drugs for Covid-19-Interim WHO Solidarity Trial Results

Summary: The authors of the study reported the interim results of using four repurposed antiviral drugs (remdesivir, hydroxychloroquine, lopinavir, and interferon beta-1a) in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. The study showed that these drug regimens had little or no effect on overall mortality, initiation of ventilation, and duration of hospital stay.
