Qualitative accounts of PrEP discontinuation from the general population in Eswatini

Kate Barnighausen et al.

Summary: People in Sub-Saharan Africa who receive Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention often discontinue taking the medication due to various reasons such as changes in perceived risk, difficulty in accessing PrEP, daily pill regimen challenges, and partner restrictions. To improve PrEP continuation rates, client-centered counseling, national scale up, extended support, and education for partners and families are recommended.
