Study of silicon photomultipliers for use in neutron decay experiments

Summary: The study aims to improve the photon readout of plastic scintillators by replacing traditional photomultipliers with silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) in order to reduce systematic errors in neutron beta decay experiments. The results show that using SiPMs for plastic scintillator readout can significantly enhance energy response and assist in providing reliable corrections for electron backscattering.

Measurement of the neutron decay electron-antineutrino angular correlation by the aCORN experiment
