Is COVID-19 infection more severe in kidney transplant recipients?

Sophie Caillard et al.

Summary: Transplant recipients had a higher COVID-19-related mortality compared to nontransplant hospitalized patients but did not differ significantly in the rate of severe disease. Factors associated with severe COVID-19 included age, cardiovascular disease, dyspnea, fever, lymphopenia, and CRP.

A longitudinal study of SARS-CoV-2-infected patients reveals a high correlation between neutralizing antibodies and COVID-19 severity

Vincent Legros et al.

Summary: The study investigated the neutralizing antibody response in serum samples from 140 confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections, finding that antibody titers correlated with disease severity and anti-spike IgG levels. Post-recovery, patients' nAb activity declined more rapidly compared to individuals infected with other coronaviruses, and previous infection by human coronaviruses did not generate protective nAbs against SARS-CoV-2. Additionally, the D614G mutation in the spike protein did not lead to neutralization escape.

COVID-19 Vaccine Race: Analysis of Age-Dependent Immune Responses against SARS-CoV-2 Indicates that more than Just One Strategy May Be Needed

Mercedes Jimenez et al.

Summary: The article analyzes the immune response to SARS coronaviruses to predict the outcome of COVID-19 vaccines. Variations in immune response among different age groups were found, suggesting the need for vaccine designs considering these differences.
