Association between social capital and loneliness among older adults: a cross-sectional study in Anhui Province, China

Zhongliang Bai et al.

Summary: The study found that social capital, especially in terms of lower social participation, social connection, and reciprocity, is associated with higher odds of loneliness in older adults. The interactive effect of different dimensions of social capital on loneliness suggests that certain factors can increase the risk of loneliness in older individuals. Improving social capital, particularly trust, social connection, and social participation, may be important for reducing loneliness in later life.
