Insights on forming N,O-coordinated Cu single-atom catalysts for electrochemical reduction CO2 to methane

Yanming Cai et al.

Summary: Single-atom catalysts are promising for catalyzing CO2 reduction to produce high value hydrocarbons, but most reactions yield CO. In this study, a low-temperature calcining process was used to fabricate a carbon-dots-based SAC which efficiently converts CO2 to methane.

Recent Progress of 3d Transition Metal Single-Atom Catalysts for Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

Chaochen Xu et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that single-atom catalysts exhibit superior catalytic activity and selectivity for the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction compared to bulk metal and nanostructured counterparts. While Ni and Fe SACs show excellent performance for CO evolution, Co, Mn, and Zn SACs are less reported due to their inertness for the CRR, and Cu SACs have ordinary catalytic activity for the CRR with few reports of C2 products.

Surfactant Removal for Colloidal Nanocrystal Catalysts Mediated by N-Heterocyclic Carbenes

Perrin Godbold et al.

Summary: The removal of surfactants from colloidal synthesized nanocrystals via ligand exchange with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) followed by protonation of the NHC ligands in acid efficiently cleans the nanocrystals' surface while preserving their uniform morphology and structure for catalysis. This surface activation strategy showed significantly improved catalytic activities for monodisperse Pt, Pd, and Au nanocrystals, surpassing other cleaning methods, as demonstrated in glycerol oxidation and CO2 reduction electrochemical reactions. This work highlights a new surface activation strategy that enables the efficient use of well-defined nanocrystal libraries for catalysis and other applications prepared by colloidal chemistry.
