Tailoring physical properties of WS2nanosheets by defects control

Lei Tao et al.

Summary: Controllable growth of high-quality transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) is crucial for device applications, and understanding the growth mechanism of TMDs is important. A comprehensive picture of WS(2) nanosheets growth was proposed through Monte Carlo simulation, and diffusion-limited growth under transition state theory was extended to describe heteroepitaxy growth of WS2. Theoretical results aligned well with chemical vapor deposition results, showing that growth temperature plays a key role in determining samples with varying densities of vacancy defects, which in turn modify the photoluminescence and ferromagnetic behavior.
