Recent Progress in High-Strength and Robust Regenerated Cellulose Materials

Hu Tu et al.

Summary: Cellulose, as the most abundant sustainable polymer, has the potential to act as an ideal substitute for plastics due to its low cost, wide availability, and biodegradability. Recent achievements in developing cellulose green solvents and regenerated cellulose materials with high strength through bottom-up approaches have shown potential applications in textiles, biomedicine, energy storage, packaging, etc. Importantly, these cellulose-based materials can be biodegraded in soil and oceans, reducing environmental pollution.

Optically Ambidextrous Reflection and Luminescence in Self-Organized Left-Handed Chiral Nematic Cellulose Nanocrystal Films

Jiawei Tao et al.

Summary: This research discovered that self-assembled cellulose nanocrystal films exhibit ambidextrous circularly polarized light reflection and chiroptical luminescence, thanks to the left-handed chiral nematic structure with PBG layers. The dual chiroptical properties can be manipulated by adjusting parameters such as temperature, concentration, and characteristics, showing the potential of these films for anti-counterfeiting optical labels.
