Harmful effects of metal(loid) oxide nanoparticles

Summary: The use of nanomaterials, including metal(loid) oxide nanoparticles, in consumer products has increased, leading to concerns about potential risks to human health and the environment. The review discusses the mechanisms underlying MOx NPs toxicity and highlights the use of yeast as a biological model in nanotoxicology. Recent scientific advances in understanding cellular responses to MOx NPs exposure are critically presented to provide insights into the impact of nanoparticles on eukaryotic cell physiology and metabolism. Discussions on current and future trends of MOx NPs toxicity and their potential impacts are also addressed.
