Determinants of suicidal ideation and suicide attempt among former and currently homeless individuals

Lia Gentil et al.

Summary: In this study, determinants associated with suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, and no suicidal behavior among homeless individuals in Quebec were identified. The results suggest that specific interventions, such as training programs, care management interventions, addiction liaison nurses, improved access to ambulatory services, and development of outreach programs, may help improve screening of homeless individuals with suicidal behavior and prevent hospitalization. Suicidal ideation and suicide attempt were strongly associated with clinical variables among homeless individuals.
