Considerations in Management of Acute Otitis Media in the COVID-19 Era

Suresh Mohan et al.

Summary: This study describes a case of a COVID-19 patient presenting with complicated acute otitis media, where middle ear fluid was sampled to evaluate the infection etiology and potential middle ear involvement of SARS-CoV-2. The findings have implications for clinical management of patients with ear diseases and suspected or confirmed COVID-19, highlighting the need for heightened precautions during otologic procedures due to the risk of coughing or prolonged close contact.

Tinnitus and equilibrium disorders in COVID-19 patients: preliminary results

Pasquale Viola et al.

Summary: This multicentric study conducted in 15 Italian hospitals aimed to investigate the prevalence of subjective tinnitus and dizziness in COVID-19 patients using an online 10-item close-ended questionnaire. Results showed that 18.4% of patients reported equilibrium disorders, while 23.2% reported tinnitus, indicating that otoneurological symptoms may affect COVID-19 patients. More studies are needed to further explore the prevalence and mechanisms of these symptoms.

Otolaryngological symptoms in COVID-19

Elif Elibol

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of otolaryngological symptoms in COVID-19 patients based on age, gender, and pneumonia-related thorax CT characteristics. The results showed that otolaryngological symptoms were more common in females and in the 18-30 age group. Patients with viral pneumonia were more likely to exhibit these symptoms, providing important insights for managing COVID-19 patients with otolaryngological complaints.
