Genotyping Dickeya dianthicola Causing Potato Blackleg and Soft Rot Outbreak Associated With Inoculum Geography in the United States

Summary: This study investigated an outbreak of blackleg and soft rot of potato in the northeastern United States caused by D. dianthicola, identifying three genotypes of the pathogen. Type I was predominantly associated with Maine, type II was distributed throughout the northeastern United States, and type III was found in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The geographic origins of these strains remain unknown.
