Challenges to sustaining beekeeping livelihoods in Ghana

Emmanuel Bintaayi Jeil et al.

Summary: This study investigates the livelihood challenges faced by actors within Ghana's beekeeping value chain. The findings reveal that challenges such as bee abscondment, pests and predators, lack of finance, and bush fires affect the sustainability of beekeepers' livelihoods. Lack of finance to expand operations is identified as the major challenge. Institutional support from NGOs and financial institutions, in terms of credit and education, is crucial for ensuring secure and sustainable livelihoods in beekeeping.
