Summary: Every year, the American Cancer Society projects the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths in the United States, with the latest data showing a significant decline in lung cancer mortality, while prostate cancer mortality has plateaued and breast and colorectal cancer mortality have slowed. Improvements in treatment have accelerated progress against lung cancer, leading to a record drop in overall cancer mortality.

Links between Inflammation and Postoperative Cancer Recurrence

Tomonari Kinoshita et al.

Summary: Despite complete resection, cancer recurrence is common, indicating possible metastasis of cancer cells. Tumor microenvironment plays a crucial role in cancer development and metastasis, with cancer-associated inflammation possibly contributing to these processes. Although the relationship between inflammation and cancer recurrence has been extensively studied, it remains challenging to identify the status of cancer-associated inflammation in clinical settings.

Interaction between Schwann cells and other cells during repair of peripheral nerve injury

Wen-Rui Qu et al.

Summary: Peripheral nerve injury can lead to rapid Wallerian degeneration of the distal stump, followed by morphological changes in Schwann cells (SCs) and recruitment of macrophages. SC migration and dedifferentiation play crucial roles in nerve repair and regeneration by stimulating axonal regeneration and subsequent myelination of regenerated nerve fibers. Interactions between SCs, fibroblasts, and macrophages post-injury are essential for effective nerve repair.
