Summary: The study updated the estimates of global carbon monoxide (CO) trends using satellite observations, finding a deceleration in CO column amounts over the period 2002-2018 compared to earlier analyses. A combined trend analysis of CO and aerosol optical depth (AOD) measurements helped diagnose regional differences in CO trends, with evidence of the impact of air quality management policies on atmospheric CO concentrations. Hemispheric variability in CO from various satellite instruments was consistent, and regional trends in CO and AOD showed differences in variability and response to emissions changes.
