Response rates in metastatic neuroendocrine tumors receiving peptide receptor radionuclide therapy and implications for future treatment strategies

Tanaz Vaghaiwalla et al.

Summary: This retrospective study evaluated response rates among neuroendocrine tumor patients who received peptide receptor radionuclide therapy, showing that pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors were more likely to have a partial response compared to other primary sites. Patients with stable pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors after 2 cycles were more likely to respond to additional treatment cycles.

Outcomes of cytoreductive operations for peritoneal carcinomatosis with or without liver cytoreduction in patients with small bowel neuroendocrine tumors

Sarah M. Wonn et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a majority of patients with small bowel neuroendocrine tumors with peritoneal carcinomatosis and liver metastases can benefit from cytoreduction. Complete clearance of tumors leads to the best survival times, but there is also improved survival for patients with Lyon Stage <= 1. In patients with liver metastases, the best survival outcomes after cytoreduction are seen when both Lyon Stage <= 1 and >70% liver metastases are achieved.

Management of Locally Advanced and Unresectable Small Bowel Neuroendocrine Tumours

Jonathan Koea

Summary: Three subtypes of small bowel neuroendocrine tumours have been described: Type A is resectable without involving the mesenteric root, Type B is borderline resectable with mesenteric nodal metastases adjacent to the main vessels, and Type C is locally advanced or irresectable with encasement of the vessels. Type C, although rare, presents with symptoms of intestinal ischemia or obstruction and requires symptom management as the primary focus of treatment.
