SiPM-matrix readout of two-phase argon detectors using electroluminescence in the visible and near infrared range

Summary: Proportional electroluminescence in noble gases is used in two-phase detectors for dark matter searches, with standard EL mechanism and two alternative mechanisms. This study for the first time demonstrates two alternative techniques of the optical readout for two-phase argon detectors, and measures detection threshold.

Summary: The ICARUS T600 liquid argon time projection chamber underwent a major overhaul at CERN from 2016 to 2017 in preparation for operation at FNAL in the Short Baseline Neutrino program. The upgrade included improvements to the photo-multiplier system, TPC wire read-out electronics, and a new signal feed-through flange. Initial functionality tests of the new TPC electronics chain installed in the T600 detector at FNAL are also described.
