Ladle slag characteristics and use in mortar and concrete: A comprehensive review

Omar Najm et al.

Summary: Ladle slag is a by-product of secondary steel treatment, which has been causing environmental concerns due to stockpiling in open yards. It can be recycled in the construction industry as a sustainable replacement for cement binder, reducing cement consumption, protecting resources, and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. Research shows that ladle slag can be utilized in concrete industry with favorable properties after preprocessing measures, without compromising the strength and durability of concrete.
