Multi-block classification of chocolate and cocoa samples into sensory poles

Alessandra Biancolillo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop an analytical methodology to correlate the sensory poles of chocolate with their chemical characteristics, using trained panelists to investigate various samples and analyzing them with six different techniques. The study successfully predicted the sensory poles of chocolate samples using chemical information, with only two out of thirty-one test samples being misclassified.

A rapid method to detect green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio by using portable FT-MIR and FT-NIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics

Didem Peren Aykas et al.

Summary: The determination of green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio was studied using portable Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR) and Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy. Both spectrometers showed high performance in predicting adulterant levels, with FT-NIR spectrometer providing more precise results. These portable spectrometers have the potential to be alternative methods for real-time surveillance of green pea and peanut adulteration in pistachio, with FT-NIR spectrometer being the preferred choice.

Comparison of near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy based on chemometrics for saffron authentication and adulteration detection

Arian Amirvaresi et al.

Summary: The study found that NIR spectroscopy is more effective than MIR in predicting the origin of saffron samples, while PLS-DA shows high accuracy in detecting adulterants, with NIR demonstrating excellent performance in estimating the level of adulteration.
