Capabilities of selenoneine to cross the in vitro blood-brain barrier model

Summary: The study found that SeN has a slow transfer rate across the blood-brain barrier and is not metabolized by brain endothelial cells. Although there was evidence of SeN transfer on both sides of the barrier, speciation analysis indicated that PBCECs did not methylate SeN. Further research is needed to investigate the potential health-promoting effects of SeN in humans.
