Summary: Artificial metalloenzymes (ArMs) have become a major research interest in biocatalysis, with the ability to facilitate new-to-nature reactions through protein engineering or the introduction of abiotic transition metals. These ArMs have a wide reaction scope and promising applications in pharmaceutical synthesis, diagnostics, and drug therapy.

The Impact of Water on Ru-Catalyzed Olefin Metathesis: Potent Deactivating Effects Even at Low Water Concentrations

Summary: Ruthenium catalysts for olefin metathesis are commonly thought to be water-tolerant, but evidence shows that even low concentrations of water can lead to catalyst decomposition and reduced yields. Fast-initiating catalysts are most affected, while the slow-initiating iodide and cyclic derivatives exhibit maximum water tolerance. Computational studies suggest that hydrogen bonding of water to the substrate can also impact the reaction.
