Determining residents' enjoyment of Cantonese opera as their performing arts heritage in Macao

Man-U. Io et al.

Summary: This study empirically investigates Macao residents' perception and enjoyment of Cantonese opera as their traditional performing arts. It finds that the experiential attributes and intrinsic craftsmanship significantly influence residents' enjoyment of their performing arts heritage. The constructs of 'identity connection' and 'leisure experiential benefits' predict the intrinsic craftsmanship and residents' enjoyment of Cantonese opera, with intrinsic craftsmanship being the strongest predictor. Moreover, residents' consumption experience of Cantonese opera varies with their socio-demographic characteristics, particularly their birthplace and age.

Summary: The article discusses the alarming suicide rates among Indigenous youth in Canada, which are significantly higher than their non-Indigenous counterparts. It presents the findings of a research project that focused on promoting wellness and life promotion with Indigenous youth living on a reserve in Saskatchewan. Data collection was done through an arts-based workshop where youth created stories about healing, life, relationships, hope, and ceremony, using a two-eyed seeing approach. The importance of cultural continuity, cultural connectedness, and cultural revitalization in organizing leisure programs and services is emphasized.
