Analysis of land use land cover change using a new and existing spectral indices and its impact on normalized land surface temperature

Atul Kant Piyoosh et al.

Summary: A new spectral index NRUI(ms) has been proposed for assessing LULC changes in Dehradun, India using Landsat satellite data. The NRUI(ms) showed better separability compared to other indices for the fallow-urban class pair. Significant LULC changes were observed during the period 1991-2019, with unprecedented urban growth and conversion of vegetated areas into non-vegetated areas.

Seasonal impact on the relationship between land surface temperature and normalized difference vegetation index in an urban landscape

Subhanil Guha et al.

Summary: The present study examines the seasonal variation of land surface temperature (LST) and its relationship with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) in different land use/land cover (LULC) types in Raipur City, India. The findings show that LST is highest in bare lands and built-up areas, while it is lowest in green vegetation. The correlation between LST and NDVI varies across seasons and LULC types.

Spatiotemporal analysis of urban heat island intensification in the city of Minneapolis-St. Paul and Chicago metropolitan areas using Landsat data from 1984 to 2016

Mbongowo J. Mbuh et al.

Summary: Urban Heat Islands result from higher temperatures in one area compared to another due to reduced green space, attracting attention for long-term spatial-temporal studies of local climates. This study used Landsat data to analyze temporal intensification and variability of UHIs in Chicago and Minneapolis-St.Paul from 1984 to 2016, showing year-to-year fluctuations in surface temperature intensification of UHIs in both metro areas.

Retrieval of Land Surface Temperature With Topographic Effect Correction From Landsat 8 Thermal Infrared Data in Mountainous Areas

Xiaolin Zhu et al.

Summary: Accurate estimation of land surface temperature in mountainous areas is crucial for ecological monitoring and climate studies. The new algorithm proposed in this study can retrieve LST from Landsat 8 data with topographic effect correction. Factors such as sky-view factor, atmospheric water vapor content, surface emissivity, and surrounding terrain's LST all play a significant role in the magnitude of the topographic effect.
