Assessing MMA Welding Process Stability Using Machine Vision-Based Arc Features Tracking System

Wojciech Jamrozik et al.

Summary: Arc length is a crucial parameter in manual metal arc (MMA) welding process, influencing arc voltage and welded joint quality. The stability of the process relies on the skills of the welder, and using CMOS cameras to track welding electrode and estimate arc geometry provides valuable feedback to improve stability and quality.

Underwater additive manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V alloy by laser metal deposition: Formability, gran growth and microstructure evolution

Yunlong Fu et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first use of underwater laser metal deposition technology in building thin walled Ti-6Al-4V parts, showing that stable local dry cavity and shielding-gas flow layer formed during the ULMD process using an improved ULMD nozzle can generate uniform thin-walled parts without cracks and pores. Columnar beta-grains were observed throughout the ULMD part, growing epitaxially opposite to the heat flow direction and changing in size with deposition layer increase.

Synergistic Investigations of Post-Deformation Annealing and Initial Microstructure on the Mechanical Properties of High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA)-100 Steel

Ali Heydarinia et al.

Summary: A high strength low alloy (HSLA)-100 steel with different initial microstructures (ferrite and martensite) was cold-rolled at room temperature to reduce thickness by about 70%. The samples with a martensitic microstructure exhibited higher recrystallization kinetics and a drastic drop in hardness compared to those with a ferritic microstructure, leading to significant mechanical properties after tempering.

Waiting time before NDT of welded offshore steel grades under consideration of delayed hydrogen-assisted cracking

Eugen Wilhelm et al.

Summary: Offshore wind turbines are a major focus of Germany's energy strategy, but the manufacturing costs and long waiting times for testing welded steel components pose financial burdens. This study aims to optimize the construction process by reducing waiting times, ultimately lowering costs and improving efficiency in OWT construction. Acoustic emission analysis is used to quantify the delay time until hydrogen-assisted cold cracks appear.

THE ANALYSIS OF FILLER MATERIAL EFFECT ON PROPERTIES OF EXCAVATOR CRAWLER TRACK SHOE AFTER WELDING REGENERATION

M. Gucwa et al.

Summary: This study presents the results of using three different grades of covered electrodes for regenerating worn track staves, showing significant differences in the structure and properties of the welds. Variations in hardness between materials used were up to 150 HV units, while the difference in wear resistance in the ASTM G65 test varied by almost 12 times.
