DIRECT DATING OF THE HUMAN NAVICULAR FROM THE CUEVA DE LOS TORREJONES (GUADALAJARA, SPAIN)

Adrian Pablos et al.

Summary: Research on Pleistocene human remains in the Iberian Peninsula revealed a navicular bone identified as Homo sapiens, previously believed to be Neanderthal. However, direct radiocarbon dating showed the bone actually belonged to the Chalcolithic period, contrary to expectations. This unexpected finding suggests a lack of Upper Paleolithic human fossils in the Torrejones Cave.
