Features of autonomic cardiovascular control during cognition in major depressive disorder

Angela Bair et al.

Summary: This study found abnormalities in cardiovascular control during cognition in patients with major depressive disorder, involving reduced parasympathetic control and blunted sympathetic reactivity. Patients exhibited impairments in attention and processing speed during cognitive tasks, rather than executive dysfunction. This suggests that physiological adjustment resources are reduced in MDD, providing suboptimal conditions for cognitive performance.

Cardiovascular Variability and Reactivity in Major Depressive Disorder

Stefan Duschek et al.

Summary: This study found significant abnormalities in cardiovascular variability and stress reactivity in patients with major depressive disorder, including reduced heart rate and blood pressure variability, as well as blunted cardiovascular reactivity. These findings may indicate underlying autonomic dysregulation and impaired functioning in individuals with major depressive disorder.
