Criterion validity of ultrasound in the identification of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposits at the knee: an OMERACT ultrasound study

Georgios Filippou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the accuracy of ultrasound in diagnosing CPPD, with the highest sensitivity and specificity achieved by assessing the medial meniscus and medial condyle hyaline cartilage in combination. There were no differences in terms of inflammation between patients with CPPD and OA and those with OA alone.

Management of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition disease: A systematic review

Konstantinos Parperis et al.

Summary: A systematic literature review on the management of calcium pyrophosphate crystal deposition disease (CPPD) revealed limited data and scarcity of high-quality evidence. Commonly used drugs like NSAIDs, colchicine, and corticosteroids have not been evaluated in randomized controlled trials, highlighting the urgent need for specific treatment modalities supported by high-quality evidence for this common yet neglected form of arthritis.
