Phytosterols: Targeting Neuroinflammation in Neurodegeneration

Raju Dash et al.

Summary: Plant-derived sterols, phytosterols, have shown beneficial effects on lowering cholesterol, anti-inflammatory activities, and regulating neuroinflammatory pathways. However, there are still unanswered questions and more research is needed, especially in the clinical application of phytosterols.

Dietary fatty acids as nutritional modulators of sirtuins: a systematic review

Ana Paula S. Caldas et al.

Summary: This systematic review aimed to analyze the role of fat consumption as a modulator of human sirtuins. Studies to date have not provided sufficient evidence to understand how lipid consumption modulates sirtuins in humans, although oleic acid has been highlighted as a natural activator of SIRT1. These findings suggest a new area of interest in nutrition science where dietary fat manipulation could potentially activate sirtuins as an important nutritional strategy for managing chronic and metabolic diseases.
