Self-compacting concrete with blended short and long fibres: experimental investigation on the role of fibre blend proportion

Kazim Turk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of blended micro and macro steel fibre addition on the fresh and hardened properties of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The results showed that when the micro steel fibre ratio exceeded 0.25%, it negatively affected the fresh properties of SCC, while positively influencing the compressive strength but reducing the splitting and flexural tensile strength. The inclusion of macro steel fibre resulted in the formation of multiple cracks and exhibited a deflection-hardening response in mixtures with higher contents of macro steel fibre.

Effect of high temperature on the mechanical properties of basalt fibre self-compacting concrete as an overlay material

James H. Haido et al.

Summary: Basalt fibers are inorganic concrete fibers fabricated by melting basalt rock, exhibiting remarkable resistance to elevated temperatures compared to other manufactured fibers. This study investigated the effects of basalt fibers on the workability and properties of self-compacting concrete at various temperatures. The experimental results showed that increasing temperatures up to 500 degrees C reduced the tensile and compressive strengths of SCC by over 20%, and roughening the interface surface through sandblasting method achieved the optimum slant shear strength of hybrid concrete under fire.

Artificial neural network (ANN), M5P-tree, and regression analyses to predict the early age compression strength of concrete modified with DBC-21 and VK-98 polymers

Ahmed Mohammed et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of two water-reducer polymers on the workability and compression strength of concrete, finding that the compression strength significantly increased with higher polymer contents. The addition of polymers formed a fiber net in the concrete, reducing voids between particles and increasing the viscosity of fresh concrete and compression strength of hardened concrete. The most dominant parameter affecting the prediction of maximum stress (compression strength) of concrete in this study was found to be the curing time.

Summary: A new framework utilizing hybrid intelligence and machine learning techniques was proposed to accurately predict the ultimate bond strength between corroded steel reinforcements and surrounding concrete. The models were built using various computational methods and optimization approaches, with the MLP-LM model outperforming existing models with a high determination coefficient of 0.97 for training data and 0.96 for overall data.
