Magnetic resonance imaging after ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract for high perianal fistulas in Crohn's disease: a retrospective cohort study

E. M. Meima-van Praag et al.

Summary: Ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) is effective for closure of high perianal fistulas in Crohn's disease, with postoperative MRI showing decreased fistula activity and predominantly fibrotic tracts in most patients. Clinical outcomes were favorable in patients with fibrotic tracts, while patients with persisting granulation tissue had unfavorable outcomes, highlighting the potential prognostic value of MRI.
