Effects of organic and chemical fertilizers on the growth, heavy metal/metalloid accumulation, and human health risk of wheat (Triticum aestivumL.)

Ilker Ugulu et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of chemical and organic fertilizers on heavy metal/metalloid accumulation in wheat samples, finding that wheat under chemical fertilizer treatment had the best growth parameters. Most heavy metal/metalloid concentrations in wheat grains were within safe limits, except for lead. The health risk index suggested that wheat grown with chemical fertilizers had higher metal content, but consumption of wheat from both organic and chemical applications was not hazardous to health.
