Use of biochar as feed supplements for animal farming

Ka Yan Man et al.

Summary: The use of biochar as a feed additive has been shown to have positive effects on animal growth performance, blood profiles, egg production, pathogen resistance, and methane reduction in ruminant animals. Additionally, the high sorption capacity of biochar efficiently aids in removing pollutants and toxins from animals' bodies and farm environments. It is anticipated that biochar will see increased use in animal farming, with potential applications in the medical and human health sectors as well.

Dependence of pyrolysis temperature and lignocellulosic physical-chemical properties of biochar on its wettability

Luiza Useviciute et al.

Summary: The wettability of biochar is a complex property that can be influenced by various factors including feedstock type, pyrolysis temperature, and physical-chemical properties. Research findings suggest that the variability of biochar wettability can be predicted based on its average pore size, while the variability of water holding capacity can be predicted according to its ash content.

Opportunity for sustainable biomass valorization to produce biochar for improving soil characteristics

Aysu Ulusal et al.

Summary: The study evaluated oak sawdust as a potential feedstock for biochar production, finding that pyrolysis temperature and residence time significantly influence biochar characteristics. Increasing temperature and time can improve nutrient content and water holding capacity, while decreasing yield and O/C ratio.

Advanced materials and technologies for supercapacitors used in energy conversion and storage: a review

M. I. A. Abdel Maksoud et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors are increasingly utilized in sustainable nanotechnologies for energy conversion and storage. Various materials, such as spinel ferrites, perovskite oxides, transition metals sulfides, carbon materials, and conducting polymers, are compared for supercapacitor fabrication. Transition metal sulfides, like ZnCo2S4, exhibit higher specific capacitance compared to transition metal oxides, due to low charge-transfer resistance and high ion diffusion rate. Composites of magnetic oxides or transition metal sulfides with conducting polymers or carbon materials show the highest capacitance activity and cyclic stability, attributed to oxygen and sulfur active sites that facilitate electrolyte penetration and create new active sites.

Thermokinetic study of residual solid digestate from anaerobic digestion

Collins I. Akor et al.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion is an effective waste management method in the agri-food sector, but faces challenges such as handling the by-products like solid digestate (SD). The traditional method of using SD as organic fertilizer on land is becoming less viable as the industry grows. New research suggests the potential of using SD as a biofuel source, with kinetic predictions indicating a temperature above 210 degrees C is needed for decomposition.
