Fatigue assessment based on hot-spot stresses obtained from the global dynamic analysis and local static sub-model

Cristiane Oliveira Viana et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the fatigue process in a critical detail through dynamic analysis of the global structural model and local static sub-modelling using the hot-spot stress approach. The proposed methodology combines modal analysis with modal superposition method to determine temporal stresses and evaluate fatigue life. IIW recommendations were found to be more conservative compared to Eurocode EN 1993-1-9, highlighting the importance of global-local modeling for fatigue evaluation in welded joints.
