The effect of hydrothermal conditions on photoluminescence properties of rice husk-derived silica-carbon quantum dots for methylene blue degradation

Viona Wongso et al.

Summary: Carbon quantum dots have the potential to replace metal-based quantum dots due to their low toxicity. This study focused on preparing composite silica-carbon quantum dots from rice husks through a hydrothermal process. The variation of hydrothermal conditions was found to influence the properties of the Si-CQDs, with temperature controlling carbonization rate and acid/base additions affecting polymerization and particle size. The Si-CQD samples showed emission in the range of 469-552 nm and were evaluated for methylene blue degradation under visible light irradiation.
