Maternal exposure to imazalil disrupts intestinal barrier and bile acids enterohepatic circulation tightly related IL-22 expression in F0, F1 and F2 generations of mice

Cuiyuan Jin et al.

Summary: The study found that exposure to Imazalil (IMZ) can cause significant changes in mucus secretion and ion transport in the intestine, disrupt the expression of antimicrobial peptides, affect bile acid metabolism, alter the expression levels of critical genes, and lead to remarkable increase in IL-22 expression. Immune cell-produced cytokines also exhibited extraordinary changes after exposure to IMZ. This indicates that IMZ exposure is perceived as a major stress by the intestinal epithelium, strongly impacting intestinal barrier function.
