Iron-activated bermudagrass-derived biochar for adsorption of aqueous sulfamethoxazole: Effects of iron impregnation ratio on biochar properties, adsorption, and regeneration

Summary: This study focused on the effects of FeCl3 impregnation on the properties of biochars derived from bermudagrass, the adsorption of sulfamethoxazole onto the biochars, and the regeneration of spent biochars. The FeCl3 impregnation significantly enhanced the surface area, hydrophobicity, Fe content, and adsorption capacity of the biochars. Various adsorption mechanisms were identified between sulfamethoxazole and the FeCl3-activated biochars.

The catalyst also has a large specific surface area and a hierarchical pore structure, improving mass transfer efficiency.

One-step fabrication of oxygen vacancy-enriched Fe@Ti/C composite for highly efficient degradation of organic pollutants through persulfate activation

Summary: In this study, a cost-effective magnetic carbon-supported Fe@Ti composite was synthesized and used as a highly efficient persulfate (PS) activator for wastewater purification. The Fe@Ti/C-4 composite showed the best catalytic performance, effectively degrading Rhodamine B in wastewater. The presence of oxygen vacancies in the composite promoted electron transfer and played a key role in generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) for efficient degradation of organic pollutants.

Degradation of anthraquinone dye reactive blue 19 using persulfate activated with Fe/Mn modified biochar: Radical/non-radical mechanisms and fixed-bed reactor study

Summary: In this study, a heterogeneous activator prepared from sludge-derived biochar modified by Fe/Mn was found to effectively degrade reactive blue dye. Radical and non-radical mechanisms were proposed, with evidence of sulfate radical, hydroxyl radical, and singlet oxygen involvement. Experimental results also showed the potential of the activator in dye removal. Modeling using artificial neural networks showed better prediction results compared to traditional methods, indicating its suitability for engineering applications.
