Sexing chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) with high-resolution melting analysis using feather crude DNA

A. D. England et al.

Summary: The study utilized high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis to detect DNA variations in the CHD1Z and CHD1W genes of chickens. A simplified DNA extraction method was developed to differentiate male and female birds via distinct melting curves. The method was validated by sexing 1,318 broiler chicks and allows for quick and cost-effective sexing of birds in large-scale experiments.

Multi-carbohydrase effects on energy utilization depend on soluble non-starch polysaccharides-to-total non-starch polysaccharides in broiler diets

Sosthene Musigwa et al.

Summary: The study found that adding multicarbohydrases (MC) increased apparent metabolisable energy (AME), net energy (NE), and AME/gross energy in all diets. An interaction between MC and soluble NSP/total NSP ratios was observed for feed intake, AME intake per metabolic BW, AME/N retention, NE intake/N retention, retained energy as fat per total retained energy, and nitrogen efficiency. MC application improved energy utilization in all diets and nitrogen efficiency in birds fed a low soluble NSP diet.
