Dietary Serine Supplementation Regulates Selenoprotein Transcription and Selenoenzyme Activity in Pigs

Summary: The study showed that serine supplementation had no effect on selenium content in pigs, but 0.5% serine supplementation significantly increased selenium content in the liver. Supplementation with serine at different levels significantly increased the gene expression of selenoproteins in the skeletal muscle and liver of pigs. Pigs supplemented with 0.5% serine had the highest selenoprotein P concentration and enzymatic activity, while those with 0.25% serine had the highest enzymatic activity in the liver.
