Reverse transcription transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) detection for Australian Cherax reovirus from redclaw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus)

Orachun Hayakijkosol et al.

Summary: Reoviruses have been isolated from various aquatic animals, with viral inclusion bodies found in redclaw crayfish. New primers were designed to detect reovirus in redclaw crayfish, with a newly developed RT-PCR diagnostic method showing high sensitivity and specificity for Cherax reovirus diagnosis. The method has a detection limit of 1000 reovirus genome equivalents and does not cross-react with other prawn pathogens.
