Arginine methylation: the promise of a 'silver bullet' for brain tumours?

Sabrina F. Samuel et al.

Summary: Despite extensive research efforts, pharmaceutical treatments for high-grade brain tumours have not improved patient survival rates, with an average life expectancy of less than 16 months after diagnosis. Inhibitors of protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) have been developed over the past 15 years and are now being studied in oncology clinical trials, including for brain tumours. This review summarizes recent advances in understanding the role of PRMTs and arginine methylation in brain tumours, providing insight into potential future research directions in this area.
