Placenta accreta spectrum: a hysterectomy can be prevented in almost 80% of cases using a resective-reconstructive technique

Jose Miguel Palacios-Jaraquemada et al.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed a series of cases to describe the use of surgical repair (one-step resective-conservative surgery) in all cases of placenta accreta spectrum. The results showed that this approach can preserve the uterus with minimal morbidity and reduced blood loss in almost 80% of cases.

A multicenter observational survey of management strategies in 442 pregnancies with suspected placenta accreta spectrum

Heleen J. van Beekhuizen et al.

Summary: This observational study described the management and outcomes of women with PAS in 15 referral centers. The most common management for severe PAS was cesarean hysterectomy, with leaving the placenta in situ and focal resection as other options. Prenatal diagnosis correlated with clinical PAS grade, and no maternal deaths occurred.

Developing a database for multicenter evaluation of placenta accreta spectrum

Thorsten Braun et al.

Summary: This study highlights the importance of multicenter cooperation in researching rare and complex clinical conditions, such as pregnancies complicated by PAS. The IS-PAS established a secure web-based database for data collection and analysis, which proved to be effective in gathering pregnancy data from 442 women. Through the use of in-person meetings and an online database, researchers were able to analyze the data and showcase the usefulness of the new database.
